Lyn Lewis-Smith, CEO of BESydney, discusses the corporate incentive market on SBS TV

31 July 2015

SYDNEY: Yesterday, Lyn Lewis-Smith, the CEO of Business Events Sydney, was interviewed by national television channel, SBS, on the importance of the Asian corporate incentive market.

The latest Australian tourism statistics found international visitors to Australia aged 15 years and over spent a record breaking $32.5 billion for the 12 months ending March 2015, up 10 per cent off the back of an eight per cent increase in arrivals and seven per cent growth in visitor nights.

Over the last 12 months, 829,000 Chinese travellers took a trip to Australia, with spending growing from $1.5 billion 10 years ago, to almost $6.5 billion today. China now accounts for 20 per cent of all trip spending by international visitors, which incidentally rose to a record $32.5 billion.

Ms Lyn Lewis-Smith said these incentive groups are being sent by global corporations rewarding their top achievers. "They are shopping, they are eating at our restaurants and they are visiting our attractions and cultural icons. They want an immersive experience in our Indigenous culture, they are really inquisitive as to where our heritage comes from."

She said there are a number of things small business owners can do to capitalise on Australia's popularity.
