International event buyers experience our regions first hand - Business events deliver more than A$21 million to NSW regional economies

Friday 11 December 2015

Dreamtime 2015: Fifteen international corporate incentive agents and three international journalists will visit Glenworth Valley today as part of a four-day program to showcase the strengths of Sydney and New South Wales (NSW) as world leading destinations for business events.

NSW regional economies have benefited to the tune of more than A$21 million from major international business events secured by the bureau and held in the state in 2014 and 2015.

Business Events Sydney (BESydney) CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith said the figures demonstrated the allure of NSW’s diverse regions for international conferences, conventions and incentive reward programs – both for their pre- or post-touring opportunities, and for their unique and inspiring team-building activities and backdrops. Importantly, through this activity the business events sector is also helping to support local jobs and businesses.

“Business event visitors spend up to 6.5 times more than holiday tourists, so getting them out into the regions is vital,” said Ms Lewis Smith. “Good event facilities, accommodation and leisure activities all help to ‘sell’ regional NSW to business visitors.

“It’s our job to showcase the depth and breadth of options available on Sydney’s doorstep to the world, just like we are today,” concluded Ms Lewis-Smith.

In Sydney for four days (9-12 December), delegates from India, Korea and Hong Kong will be treated to a bespoke program designed and delivered by BESydney, in partnership with the NSW Government and the convention bureau’s world-class event supplier, attraction and venue partners.

The Sydney Educational is part of Dreamtime 2015, Tourism Australia’s premier incentive travel showcase. Held every two years, Dreamtime provides a business, educational and social environment for Australian suppliers to meet with qualified international agents of corporate meetings and incentive programs.

“The Asian incentive market has grown strongly over the past few years. We’ve seen 20 per cent year-on-year growth over the past decade in the value of events secured from Asia and this market now accounts for almost half of the business we secure and deliver each year. Our research shows that Asian incentive delegates are also our highest-yielding delegate, outspending holiday visitors by an average of 6.5 times, and up to as much as 9.4 times*,” added Ms Lewis-Smith.

Today, as part of their Sydney/NSW program, Dreamtime delegates will travel to Glenworth Valley on the NSW Central Coast. Exploring the 3,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness, the group will take part in quad biking, horse riding and kayaking and finish with a gourmet BBQ of local and seasonal produce.
