Green conference and business meeting case study

Business Events Sydney (BESydney) promotes and encourages ‘green’, or sustainable, meetings and conferences in Sydney. It is our goal that the events Sydney hosts will be as environmentally and socially responsible as possible, and contribute positively to the community.

What makes a sustainable conference or event?

According to Jeremy Garling, Managing Director of Great Southern E-vents, making a conference sustainable should impact every facet of the event.

"When we talk about 'going green', the ultimate aim is to make our actions sustainable,” he says. That means “using less of everything now so that it lasts longer, and choosing to use products, suppliers or procedures that have less of an impact on the planet."

Jeremy says this applies across the event planning process, "particularly the areas of water, energy, air, waste, transport, procurement. Many of these areas are interlinked, and provide opportunities to make environmental and cost savings."

World Congress of the Renewable City, 2009

Sydney will host the world’s first World Congress of the Renewable City in 2009. More than 1,000 international experts will present the latest innovations from leading specialists in green energy and sustainable urban development during the four-day conference.

The congress is endorsed by the World Council for Renewable Energy, an international organisation promoting the rapid and world-wide adoption of sun, wind, water and bio-energy.
