Head of Bidding


Virginia Loyola graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality Management) and is currently undertaking a Master of Business & Technology at the same university. Her experience in the tourism industry includes positions at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney and STA Travel. She joined Business Events Sydney (BESydney) in September 2002 and has been successful in leading key bids for Sydney.


These include travelling to Cairo with the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (formerly the Institute of Surveyors Australia) in 2005 to for the successful bid to host the XXIV International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Congress in 2010 and working with the Australian Lung Foundation in 2008 to win the 2013 World Conference on Lung Cancer. Virginia oversees the association bidding department at BESydney which each year submits approximately 60 bids. During the financial year 2010/2011, the team has secured 45 association conferences for Sydney.


Virginia has presented at Meeting & Events Australia (MEA) professional development courses and is currently on the local host committee for the MEA National Conference to be held in Sydney in April 2012. She regularly presents to tourism and event management students at the University of Technology Sydney and UNSW on the importance of business events. She is currently working with the School of Marketing at the Australian School of Business, UNSW, to develop a new Events Strategy and Marketing course for undergraduate students, launched in July 2011.


Since 2008 Virginia has volunteered on the UN Australia International Women’s Day Breakfast Committee which raises money for project in the Pacific region and each year attracts around 1,500 attendees. She also works closely with Guides Australia and in 2010 was part of the project team that deliver the "Guides Say" research and report, looking into the concerns and issues facing girls and young women.
