About Business Events Sydney FAQs

What does Business Events Sydney (BESydney) do?

BESydney is the official organisation responsible for promoting Sydney and New South Wales (NSW) as a global business event, conference, meeting and incentive destination and help increase NSW business tourism.

We were previously called the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB). Our name has changed, but our mission has not. Our goal is to bring major meetings and congresses to Sydney, and support those events when they come here.

You can learn more about our event bidding, support, and planning services here.

Aren't you an event planning service?

Busness Events Sydney promotes Sydney and NSW as a top national and international business events destination. We also provide a free event planning service, AccessNSW which puts conference planners event  planners and meeting planners in touch with all the services, venues and attractions they need.

Do you represent events just in Sydney, or all of NSW?

Both. Business Events Sydney supports business events in Sydney and across regional NSW.

What kind of support can BESydney provide for conferences and events?

Business Events Sydney bids to bring conferences, conventions, congresses and incentives to Sydney, and then provides non-biased advice, marketing and other organisational support to the Sydney conference organisers. We generally work with local bid leaders when bidding for events.

BESydney also supports people running smaller business meetings in Sydney to plan, run and promote their event, through our free business event planning service, AccessNSW.

Does Business Events Sydney charge clients for its services?

No. All our are free. Find out more about our event bidding, support and planning services

Where does Business Events Sydney get its funding?

BESydney is a joint not-for-profit venture between the New South Wales Government, via Destination New South Wales, and more than 200 of the leading tourism attractions, venues and conference organisers in Sydney and NSW.

We receive funding and support from our government and industry partners. Find out more about Business Events Sydney major partners and industry bodies.

What does event 'bidding' mean?

A 'bid' arises when more than one city is competing for a conference, meeting or event to be held in their city. Each city 'bids' for the event by preparing information and supporting collateral as to why the event should be held in their city.

Bidding for and hosting a business event involves a substantial investment of time and resources. Many events require specific operational information or have set bid criteria that needs to be met prior to submission. Find out more about bidding for a conference or business event in Sydney

Is there any obligation for me if I start discussing the possibilities of bidding for an event with BESydney?

There is no obligation for you to commit to bidding for an event once we start discussing the possibilities. Business Events Sydney is happy to research the options and the potential of any event. We are also here to address your concerns and to work with our bid leaders throughout the entire bid process.

What if I am not ready to start the bidding process but would like to investigate the possibility?

Business Events Sydney is happy to begin researching a potential event on your behalf. We have access to information that will help to determine the chance of your event coming to Sydney or NSW; including the event’s rotation pattern, the history of delegate attendance and possible national and/or international support.

What if I have identified an event I would like to bid for?

BESydney is happy to work with people who have already identified a potential event to bid for. We are happy to step in as a support for those who are just thinking about bidding and for those that are in the middle of the bidding process. Learn more about how we can help you bid for an event.

How much of my time will it take to be a bid leader?

The amount of time a bid leader spends on an event bid varies depending on the event and the lead time. Business Events Sydney exists to take the hard work out of it: we do the research, prepare the bid document, find appropriate support and work with the relevant people. We work with short and long lead times in bidding for an event. Read about some of our recent event bidding success stories.

What does it cost to bid for a conference? Where do you get the money?

BESydney covers all the costs associated with bidding for a conference or event. This includes (and is not limited to) the cost of our expert team, the production of bid documents, lobbying material, venue finding, on-the-ground expenses for site inspections and international activity. There is no cost to your organisation.

We secure funding for these activities from the NSW Government via Events New South Wales, and from private investment by our stakeholders. Learn more about how conference bidding works.

What happens after the conference or event bid is won?

The work doesn’t stop after a bid has been won. Business Events Sydney continues to guide you in planning your Sydney event. Depending on the scale of the event, we help the association appoint a professional conference organiser (PCO), assist with marketing activities and collateral, help to maximise delegate assistance and promote the event in the media.

Can you help my organisation get funding for a conference, incentive or event in Sydney or New South Wales?

Yes. Business Events Sydney has close relationships with key public and private entities across Sydney and NSW which means we can make approaches on your behalf for support.

Are you partial to any event venues or event suppliers?

BESydney represents Sydney and regional NSW, including our member venues and event services within these areas. Our stakeholders will receive advice of potential events before non-stakeholders, in-line with the event specifications. Stakeholders pay to become a BESydney stakeholder but we do not receive commissions from stakeholders for leads.

How can I get images of Sydney for promotional purposes?

Images of Sydney and NSW can be download from the Destination NSW image library and the Tourism Australia image gallery. Many of the images we use on our website come from these libraries. Business Events Sydney does not have images available for download.

Do you have any promotional material about Sydney and NSW available? What does it cost and how do I order it?

BESydney produces a range of promotional publications and resources about Sydney and NSW, and also distributes some materials produced by other organisations. Some of these materials come at a cost but most are free of charge.
