Sydney's creative light shines

It’s no secret that Sydney shines. Our brilliant southern sun lights up the Opera House, reflects off gleaming skyscrapers and sets the sparkling Harbour alight.

But our city’s glorious natural and architectural features sometimes overshadow the cultural and artistic talent that underpins our city’s character.

All that is about to change. Sydney’s newest festival, Vivid Sydney, will kick off on 26 May as the biggest music, light and ideas festival in the southern hemisphere.

Vivid, developed by Events New South Wales, incorporates four new events that will cement Sydney’s reputation as a major creative hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

'Luminous' is a festival of music, ideas, images and performance, curated by Brian Eno at the Sydney Opera House. Visitors to the city will be dazzled by light installations, new music, debate, workshops, and of course, a lighting-up of the Opera House sails.

Cutting edge technology will feature alongside creative ingenuity in 'Smart Light Sydney', a series of beautiful, dynamic light-sculptures alongside nightly activities, a 'festival of the stars' at the Observatory and musical events.

'Creative Sydney' is a series of creative industry seminars, workshops and performances, and 'Fire Water' bills itself as "three nights of flame, flood and spectacle" in The Rocks.
