Sydney's business event expertise celebrated

5 March 2009

Together Business Events Sydney (BESydney) and the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC) have delivered hundreds of millions of dollars to the New South Wales economy.

This figure, combined with future business that has already been confirmed for the Centre between now and 2014, places the value of BESydney’s partnership with the SCEC at more than $1.2 billion; this represents 63% of total revenue BESydney has brought to the local economy since the year 2000 and demonstrates the importance of ongoing collaboration between the two organisations.

Chief Executive Officer of BESydney, Jon Hutchison AM, said, “Our partnership with the SCEC has delivered many dividends over the years. Together, we’ve attracted world class international events to Sydney, we’ve hosted major international congresses that often deliver repeat business and we’ve bought hundreds of millions of dollars into the NSW economy.

"As the organisation responsible for promoting Sydney as a business events destination, identifying new event opportunities and bringing these events to Sydney, we have terrific synergies with the SCEC and we congratulate our partners on their 21st anniversary."

Some of the major congresses that BESydney and the SCEC have hosted in the past 15 years have included the World Congress on Pain, 18th World Congress of Neurology and SIBOS – Swift International Banking Operations Society.

Hutchison attributes this success to Sydney’s business event expertise and collaborative approach with government and industry.

"Sydney has the expertise to deliver world class business events with well-established operations. This experience, as well as the rare blend of natural attributes that Sydney has to offer and a whole-of-city approach to winning new business, is something to be celebrated," he said.
